Penang is proud of its cultural heritage as much as its religious festivals and celebrations. St. Anne’s Church in Bukit Mertajam is a fine example of how both the culture and religion play an important role in ensuring this age old tradition continues to be a part of our lives.

Here is another religious celebration. Held at the St. Anne’s church in Bukit Mertajam, now known as the Minor Basilica of St. Anne situated on the mainland of state, the Church plays host to St. Anne’s Feast.
St Anne is regarded as the mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus Christ, and Catholics observe her feast day on July 26 every year.
St. Anne’s church plays a significant part in shaping Penang past.
The 10-day prayer ritual at the church is an annual event, with a Night of Candle Light Procession on the night of Day 9.
If you are in the mainland, head over to St. Anne’s church. There are many historical artefacts and relics found at the Church compound now on display.
Look out for the beautiful stained glass at the alter. Also, 15 life sized statues that depicts the crucifixion of Lord Jesus Christ is on display.
